The Friends Of Mr Cairo

Today's reading is from a song (more about that at the end). 

This is a pretty unusual song. It's the title track from the second album by Jon Anderson (lead singer for Yes) and Vangelis (musician probably most well-known for the theme song from "Chariots Of Fire).

The complete version of this song is just over twelve minutes, which the single version (which is what is in the video below) is only the first four minutes. The entire song is an ode to classic Hollywood movies, incorporating sound effects and impersonations of actors like Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Peter Lorre, etc.

I feel like the message here is to embrace what you love. That may sound overly simplistic, and you might even think you already do that (and I hope you do). 

This isn't about your vocation, though. This is about those things that you enjoy in your free time. The things that fee your soul and bring you happiness. It could be those classic gangster movies from the 1930's and 1940's (referenced in this song). It could be other kinds of movies. Or television shows. Or books. Or music. It could be anything that you love.

And this is a message to you that you deserve to enjoy those things. Not at the expense of everyone and everything else in your life. But you should make time for yourself to enjoy what you love. Even if it's only for an hour.

We're all so busy, and we all have our to-do lists full of responsibilities and tasks for everyone else in our lives. It's time to make sure that you put yourself on that list, as well.
