Today's message might not seem to apply to you, but I assure you it's for everyone. This sketch by John Lennon shows him and Yoko, running in opposite directions, trying to escape photographers. Many have said this is Lennon's thoughts on the price of fame, and what may have driven him into a kind of retirement in the 70's. While it does evoke that, most of us will never have that kind of problem. It's unlikely we'll have the kind of fame he had (and continues to have, so many years after his passing). But if you're on social media, you're already on your way to being famous. Probably not like Lennon, but we make so many connections on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram that our thoughts, comments, photos, etc. reach so many more people than we even thought possibly just ten or fifteen years ago. And we all like to get those bits of validation, with likes and retweets and all that. Every day becomes a new challenge to reach more people. Like ripples on the surface of a lake, our posts reach friends, and friends of friends, and so on. With fame comes responsibility, though many don't take the time to recognize that. And you may not even think that you're famous enough to worry about that. But the truth is, you never really know how far your social media posts may reach. Or who they might affect. I think this is just a reminder to be kind, and to think twice, before you share something with your social media audience. And to do the same before you share something from someone else, and before you comment on another's post. Every time you log into Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc., you're playing to an ever-increasing audience. Be thoughtful and be kind. This card comes from an oracle deck I created based on the artwork of John Lennon.
You can hear me read from this deck for callers on Psychic Tapestry's Love Show, with Toni DeMaio and Julia Hoffman, Friday's at 5:00pm Pacific on Blog Talk Radio!
